THE 2012 START FITNESS BLAYDON RACE
Organised by Blaydon Harrier and Athletic Club under UK Athletics Laws (uka Licence No 2012-103361) at 6.00pm on Saturday 9 JUNE from Balmbras, Cloth Market, Newcastle upon Tyne along Collingwood Street and Scotswood Road past Armstrongs Factory and over Scotswood Bridge to finish in the Shibdon Road Playing Fields in Blaydon from about 6.25pm (5.9 miles)

To first Gadgie and first Dame overall, £50 added

Further prizes, to the value of £10, will be awarded to three married couples finishing further down the field
To the first three non affiliated lads and non affiliated lasses prizes to the value of £30, £20, £10
To the first Blaydon Harrier lad and lass, not otherwise a prizewinner, prizes to the value of £20
To the first male resident and the first female resident of Blaydon and District prizes to the value of £10

THE GEORDIE AWARDS
To the First three local lads and lasses £500, £300 and £200. Awards are designed to encourage local athletics and will only be awarded to 1st claim members of clubs listed in the NE section of the NECAA handbook 2012. Awards will replace the prize which the runner would have won except in the case of a local runner winning either 1st or 2nd prize in which case the Geordie award will pass down to the next NE runner.

THE BONNY BLAYDON BELLE. A lady competitor will be selected at the start to wear the BLAYDON BELLE SASH during the race. She will receive a superb meal for two at the Cowshill Hotel in Upper Weardale.

ALL Finishers

Will receive a Commemorative Certificate, Tee-shirt, Commerorative Award, Souvenir Programme, Local Proper Beer, Local Food, Crisps and soft drink. Many will receive spot prizes. Results will be posted to all accepted entrants to the address given on the entry form.

NOTES

  1. Lads and Lasses should be 16 years or over on 9.6.2012
  2. Numbers for successful entries may be collected from Start Fitness, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle between 21st April and 13th May, those not collected by 13th May will be posted. Rejection letters for unsuccessful applicants will be posted about 13th April. Applicants who have not received a Number or Rejection Notice by 19th May should contact the race organiser by 23rd May.
  3. Entries will open on 6th February. There will be 2000 entries available online, spread over the course of the day. There will be another 2000 entries available by post - the entry form will be available from sports shop in the region and will also be made available for downloading on this website.

  4. The Kiddars Blaydon Fun Run, for youngsters from local schools, will take place at Blaydon before the Race
  5. Race Numbers must only be worn by Original Entrants and Impersonators should be aware that a race video is available to organisers and that offenders will be reported to the Athletics Authorities. Those unable to compete may have their entry carried over to next year if they inform the Organiser by 1 June (admin fee £5). Wwe regret this date is final and is not negotiable.
  6. The Race Charity Newcastle Children’s Hospital Charity raises funds to support sick children, their families and the staff looking after them by providing medical equipment, toys and games and other home comforts within the hospital service and the community. Registered Charity No 1064121.
  7. There will be Music and Dance at the Start, along the course and at the Finish and the funnels will be graced by Hazel Raysons Can-Can Troupe.
  8. Full results will be published on our race website; a copy will be posted to the address given on the entry form of all entrants.
  9. The course is unsuitable for wheelchair competitors but a special arrangement may be possible by contacting Bob Houston by 7th May.
